After reading the story "Best Mates - Three lads who went to war together" by Philippa Werry and Bob Kerr, we imagined what it would have been like leaving our family to go overseas and fight in the war. We imagined the long journey and how brave the soldiers must have been to fight for their countries. It was difficult to do, but we took ourselves back to the year 1915 when the Australian and New Zealand soldiers went to war and we wrote letters to our families explaining our journey on board the ship and our first week in the trenches.
